28 hours per week - 7 am to 2 pm

Job Description​​​​​

Responsible for ensuring breakfast is prepared for care staff to give to residents.

Responsible for cooking meals.

Responsible for ensuring tea is prepared and laid out.
-
Ensuring there is a fresh supply of homemade cakes and desserts, with some stored in the freezer.

Responsible for ensuring kitchen equipment is functioning and telling management when it is not working.

Responsible for ensuring food stock levels are optimal and warning management if any is likely to run out.

Responsible for ordering food in line with the budget.

The Head Cook will provide cover when the Part-time Cook is on annual leave.

Responsible for ensuring the kitchen is kept clean and tidy.

Ensure the food cellar is kept clean and tidy.

Responsible for organising the menu in conjunction with the Care Manager and proprietor.

Creating cakes and buffets for our residents' birthdays, and special events such as the Strawberry Tea, the residents’ Christmas party, Christmas and New Year's Day meals, and any other scheduled events.

The Head Cook, together with the Part-time Cook, will ensure the smooth running of the kitchen and the supervision of staff.

In the event of an emergency, the Head Cook will ensure there is a provision of prepared food for care staff to cook and distribute for meals.

The Old Vicarage uses as little frozen food as the budget allows.· The cook will use all the fruit and herbs in the garden and will collect them from the garden when they are ready.

The Head Cook will aim to achieve an “excellent” CQC rating and will devise an action plan to achieve such a rating if it is not awarded in the CQC assessment. The Head Cook will also help draw up a plan to assist The Old Vicarage in achieving a 5-star hygiene rating.
Qualifications​

DBS and references required - The Old Vicarage will pay for the DBS Clearance.

An Increment of £0.10 for NVQ 2.

An Increment of £0.15 for NVQ 3.

A bonus of £2 per hour for exceeding contracted hours.

20 pence per mile commuting fuel allowance for journeys over 15 miles.

Starting bonus of £ 250 (payable after a 13-week trial period).

Funding towards college.

On-site parking.

A uniform is provided.
