Thank You for the Music

The Positive Impact of the Purple Angel MP3 Players

The positivity of music has long since been acknowledged. Neuroscientists believe that music can aid relaxation, create a sense of happiness, and increase energy levels. But it does not stop there! There is also very strong evidence to suggest that music may also boost the immune system, can reduce pain as much as ibuprofen but may also reduce systolic blood pressure by up to six points. And a little music can also help those who suffer from insomnia.

A study by Dr. Julia Jones (aka Dr. Rock*) noted music that is most favoured will have the ultimate effect. For example, here at The Old Vicarage, we have found that music by Abba is incredibly relevant to many of our residents who seem to have the ability to recall lyrics with relative ease. Perhaps this is a standard neurological process as most of us can sing many song lyrics, but we sometimes forget the names of people we meet in the street! There will of course undoubtedly be an explanation for this form of selective memory recall.

Jill Bartlett, a Care Assistant at The Old Vicarage, researched and found the Purple

Angel website and the subsequent provision of twoMP3 players for a couple of residents. As part of their care, she frequently asks them to select songs of their choice from the music software we have online. Again this highlights the stimulus music has to engage the memory Which songs would you choose?

To help support the magnificent Purple Angel charity in their quest to provide free MP3 players to those who have dementia, you can purchase and download a song entitled ‘The Angels Will’ By Jennifer Bolton. For more information, please go to https://purpleangel-global.com/mp3-players/
